Always something different at the Shoulder of Mutton, Holcombe, Bury

A True English Country Pub

HOLCOMBE VILLAGE, BURY, BL8 4LZ. TEL: 01706 82 2001

FOOD PUB OF THE YEAR - THE SHOULDER OF MUTTON
Manchester Food and Drink Festival 2012.

The Shoulder of Mutton is a Lancashire Taverns blend of the best in cask conditioned ales, home cooked food from one of the north’s best young chefs, and an atmosphere that brings together old world charm and contemporary hospitality.

Enjoy the welcoming atmosphere of an 18th century pub in the heart of Holcombe village on the rugged west Pennine moors. Our real fire will keep you snug and cosy. Children, walkers and well behaved dogs are very welcome. We are proud of our pub and look forward to meeting you.

Whether you want a quiet drink, a quick lunch, a leisurely family dinner, or just somewhere to meet friends…The Shoulder of Mutton is whatever you want it to be!

Home Cooked Fresh Food

Try one of our Traditional Favourites or select Something Special from the à la carte menu. We also have a daily Specials Board and local 32 day dry aged Holcombe beef steaks.

Remember that we make almost everything on the menu at The Shoulder of Mutton. And we make everything from locally sourced Lancashire produce wherever possible.

If you prefer a freshly brewed tea or coffee we do those as well. An ideal choice with one of our mouth watering hot or cold sandwiches.

And at the Bar . . .

. . . there’s a passion for cask-conditioned ales, from local micro breweries, that few pubs can match plus quality wines from classic Rioja and Pinot Grigio to Argentinean Malbec and Australian Shiraz and a choice of drinks from fine single malt whiskies to liqueurs and Champagne.

Wonderful Spring Walks

The Shoulder of Mutton is an ideal start (or end) point for some amazing moorland walks. Holcombe village is dotted with footpath signs so just pick one and start exploring. Here are a couple of examples . . .

Lancashire Life has an excellent circular walk from Holcombe to Helmshore via Pilgrims Cross, ending back at the pub. You'll be hungry when you've finished so time it right. more>

If you are paying a visit to the East Lancs Railway take a look at their Rail Ale Trail. From Ramsbottom you can walk up the Rake to The Shoulder of Mutton. If you can manage that you'll deserve to treat yourself. And it's all downhill on the way back. Rail Ale Trail>
